Francesco Mecorio - International Singing Camp team

FRANCESCO MECORIO is a very active vocal coach and singing teacher with an international career.  He has been teaching sung and spoken voice for more than 20 years now.

 

He trained in pop / rock, jazz, soul, gospel, opera and musical theater by attending courses, lectures, workshops, lectures and seminars in singing, spoken voice, medicine applied to the artistic voice and vocal pedagogy in Italy and abroad (United Kingdom, United States, Australia).

 

He has earned the EMT (Estill Master Trainer, formerly CMT) certification under the guidance of Elisa Turlà in 2012, and the EMCI (Estill Mentor and Course Instructor, formerly CCI) certification in 2020 under the mentorship of Anne-Marie Speed, with whom  perfected in London since 2011. He attended the Estill World Voice Symposia in Rome (2011), Boston at Harvard University (2013), Melbourne (2015) and London (2019) and the 10th Estill World Voice Symposium online (2021).

 

Thanks to the Estill course, to university studies in phonetics and to personal research work, over the years he has specialized in the technical control of the voice, including phonetics and diction.  He also worked as a pop and jazz singer until 2013, when he decided to devote himself completely to teaching, and in the past as an actor, director and assistant director for several Italian shows (including "La Carezza di Dio", written and directed  by Francesca Zanni, with Paolo De Vita).

 

He has lived in Korea from 2013 to 2019 working as a researcher and university professor at the Musical Theater Department of Hong Kong University in Seoul, one of the most renowned Asian universities in the field of art, where he held the professorships of Vocal Training 1, Musical Vocal  Training 1, 2 and 3, and the Music Repertoire and Performance courses (Performing Arts Lab) in the Graduate School of Performing Arts.

In 2022 he was a lecturer at HKAPA – Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, ranked 1st university in Asia and 10th in the world for Performing Arts (QS World University Ranking)

 

He was the first Estill Voice Training teacher to reside in Asia, contributing massively to its diffusion throughout the continent but especially in South Korea and Japan. 

 

In 2017 in Seoul he was vocal coach of the American cast of "Dreamgirls", having the honor of working with Broadway performers including Bre Jackson (Effie in Dreamgirls but also understudy of Cynthia Erivo for "The Color Purple", Tony Award and Daytime Emmy Award winning cast), Tyler Hardwick (CC in "Dreamgirls" in the Tony Award winning cast for "Once on This Island"), Nik Alexander (Jimmy in "Dreamgirls", "Motown" but also at work on his project  soloist) and Candice Marie Woods (Deena in "Dreamgirls", "Hairspray", "The Book of Mormon"). Many of them are still his clients. 

 

He has been vocal coach or teacher of several celebrities of Korean music (such as Jang HeeYoung, member of the group of the famous K-pop group" Gavy NJ"), cinema and theater scene, such as Park HyeNa, Sin YeongSuk, Lisa, Choi HyunJu, O SoYeon, Lee SangJun, Nam JyungJu, Ju-A, Kim JiYu and many others, including main roles in "Frozen”, “Frozen 2”, "Wicked",  "Bonnie  and Clyde", "Jekyll and Hyde", "Rocky Horror Show", "Phantom of the Opera", "Rudolf", "42nd Street", "Kinky Boots", and more. 

 

In Italy he has been teaching privately since 2000 and has taught in various schools and academies of music and entertainment.  He was vocal coach among others of Silvia Caracristi ("The Voice of Italy", winner of "Sanremolab 2007"), Deborah Calì ("Moldova are talent") and of many TV soloists and choristers and musical theater performers.

 

He has held practice groups for the EVT courses of Anne-Marie Speed, Kiereen Lock and Paul Farrington in London in 2014 at the Royal Academy of Music, in 2015 at the Urdang 2 academy and in 2016 at Baden Powell House, for the sole  Anne-Marie Speed ​​in Seoul in 2017 at Hongik University and in 2019 at "The Arden School of Theater" in Manchester, and for Naomi Eyers in 2018 and 2019 in Hong Kong (Artfitti), with the supervision of which she also presented  from EMCI-C part of EVT Levels 1 and 2 in Seoul again in 2018 at Seoul Jazz Academy, the Korean branch of the Berklee Academy of Music in Boston, and in 2019 at Seoul Women University.

 

He regularly presents the Estill Model in Italian, English, Korean and Spanish alone or in cooperation with Naomi Eyers and Anne-Marie Speed in English for many European and Asian Countries and for US. 

 

He has held seminars and conferences in person in Italy, France, Korea (Konkuk University) and Japan in Tokyo (Lirica Studio, KM Art Hall, Studio 1619, Waseda Hoshien) and Osaka (Yoshu Hall)

 

In addition to Anne-Marie Speed ​​and Naomi Eyers, he presented the Estill model in Level One and Two Online Courses as EMCI-C (EMCI Candidate) or EMCI with Kim Steinhauer, Mary McDonald-Klimek, Tom Burke, Corinne Mager and Brian Winnie, and he has been one of the 12 Instructors who held the first Estill Level One Hybrid course. 

He has also been one of the 13 master teachers at the World Voice Expo 2021. 

 

From 2016 he was appointed as a member of the International Board of KAVPA, Korean Association for Voice of Performing Arts, a position he still holds today.  

Francesco is also a member of the Certification Advisory Board of EVI - Estill Voice International. 

 

He is already the author or is currently working on several publications, and he is writing his first book in collaboration with the otolaryngologist and doctor of the artistic voice and entertainment Alfonso Gianluca Gucciardo. 

Francesco’s research studies have been presented in national and international conferences in Korea, Italy and Poland.

He is a member of the editorial board of the ePhonoscope magazine and reviewer of the "Journal of Hearing Science”.
